Beyond The Backyard Training Course

Our Beyond The Backyard course is designed for dogs ready to take their training to the next level. This course challenges your dog with advanced learning techniques, setting them up for future success whether it’s preparing for dog sports, therapy dog certification, or the Canine Good Citizen test.

Building on the foundation from our Perfect Pooch course, we’ll introduce distance, distractions, and duration to all commands, ensuring your dog can perform reliably in any environment. Your dog will master responding to hand signals without verbal cues and follow verbal commands without prompts, enhancing their focus and responsiveness. Additionally, we’ll work on gradually phasing out treat rewards while maintaining command reliability, helping your dog transition to real-world obedience.

Whether you’re aiming for advanced obedience or preparing for future certifications, this course will keep your dog mentally stimulated and ready for success. At Sunfire Canines, we believe in pushing boundaries to unlock your dog’s full potential.

Frequently asked Questions

Before booking a consultation and starting your dog’s training journey, we understand you may have some questions. Below, you’ll find answers to some of our most frequently asked questions to help you prepare. If you have any additional questions or need further clarification, feel free to reach out to us directly.

All new clients are required to book an initial consultation before beginning any training program. This consultation lasts up to two hours and is typically held at your home or a public location of your choice. During this time, we will discuss your training goals, address any questions or concerns, and evaluate your dog’s behavior to develop a personalized training plan. To ensure a smooth start, we ask that your dog is either leashed, crated, or in a separate room upon our arrival. You can also request a complimentary phone call prior to the in-person consultation to discuss preliminary details.

Before your consultation, please ensure that all dogs (with an exception puppies) are up to date on their vaccinations. You will need a 4-6 ft leash (flexible/retractable leashes are not recommended), and we encourage having your dog’s favorite treats readily available for training. Additionally, we recommend wearing comfortable clothes suitable for hands-on training. While note-taking is encouraged, we will also send a detailed follow-up email summarizing the consultation for your convenience.

Our lead trainer, Mackenzie, is highly skilled in a variety of training techniques, including clicker training, front-clip harnesses, and prong collars. However, we prioritize your comfort and will never pressure you to use any tool that makes you uncomfortable. We’ll work with you to find alternatives that suit your dog’s needs. If necessary, we will evaluate whether a muzzle is appropriate to ensure safety for everyone involved. With over 20 years of combined experience, the trainers at Sunfire Canines are here to guide you in selecting the best tools to achieve optimal results tailored to your dog’s unique needs.
